We’re shining the spotlight on Yorkshire and all it has to offer the leisure and business guest for Yorkshire Day, taking place today (Wednesday 1 August). With the aim to promote the wonderful history behind the largest county in the UK, we wanted to showcase a variety of destinations ticking all the boxes for the ultimate few days away.

Known for Norman Castles such as Flamborough Castle, Bolton Castle and Cliffords Tower, the Industrial Revolution era and as the home of two National Parks; Peak District and North York Moors, there’s no wonder why we’re excited to take a further look into what Yorkshire really has to offer.

Whether you’re looking for a seaside escape with the family, a walking getaway in the countryside with friends or you need a couple of nights away in one of Yorkshire’s most popular city destinations for business, there’s an endless list of possibilities when it comes to visiting the location also known for its Roman and Viking heritage!

Yorkshire Coastal Getaways

Offering one of the best coastlines in the UK, Yorkshire is ideal for those wanting to grab a bucket and spade and head to the seaside. Whether it’s surfing, swimming, fishing or to catch a tan, we’ve rounded up three possible options for a coastal getaway!

Bridlington

Yorkshire Day: Bridlington

With a minor sea fishing port and a working harbour, you’ll be stuck for choice when it comes to visiting the local beach with no one but two in the area!

North beach boasts fantastic views of the chalk cliffs of Famborough Headland where you can spot many different seabirds, whereas the south beach stretches for one mile long and with the Princess Mary Promenade running behind the beach and with plenty of cafes and places to eat, it provides the perfect backdrop for a beachside walk.

Whitby

Split by the River Esk, Whitby is a popular seaside town with plenty of things to do, places to eat and hotels to stay in! The town’s skyline is dominated by ruins of St. Hilda’s Abbey, high on the East Cliff, and this of course was the place which fuelled Bram Stoker’s inspiration for the famous novel Dracula!

If you’ve had enough of the sunshine and seaside for one day, the Captain Cook Museum is nearby,  in the house where Cook once lived.

Scarborough

Yorkshire Day: Scarborough

Stunning scenery, beautiful beaches and great entertainment awaits in this family-friendly resort town located on England’s North Sea coast. A popular destination for families due to the huge variety of things to do and see, including Scarborough Sealife Sanctuary, Peasham Park and Alpamore Waterpark which is certain to keep the little ones entertained!

Superb road links via the A1, great railway options travelling from London to Edinburgh, along with four major airports make a city break in Yorkshire a great choice for both business and leisure stays!

York

Discover endless history with every turn in York. Founded by ancient Romans and host to famous attractions including York Minster, the National Railway Museum and York City Walls, there’s plenty to see and explore.  A great selection of restaurants, bars and shops all add to the excitement of this beautiful city.

Leeds

There’s never a dull moment in Leeds, birthplace to The Kaiser Chiefs! It plays host to the famous Leeds Festival (partner festival to Reading Festival) and is home to the O2 Academy and First Direct Arena, making it an ideal choice for music fanatics!

Sheffield

The Sheffield Antique Quarter is wedged just south of the city centre offering many treasures, retro finds and quirky restaurants, along with the perfect spot for afternoon tea.
