Our Head of Marketing recently stayed at Middletons in York, one of 20 hotels owned by Daniel Thwaites, who operate their services on a strict environmentally friendly, energy efficient and waste reduction basis. As a key objective to build long-term sustainability, they implement renewable energy sources via solar panels and use Britain-sourced materials to reduce carbon environmental impacts. However, don’t expect to find single-use plastics as they’ve been reduced them across all their hotels and inns!

Left behind some bacon from your breakfast meal at the on-site restaurant and worried about wasting food? Middletons have a food waste reduction program which separates, recycles, and converts food waste to electricity through anaerobic digestion. In other (very oversimplified) words, your bacon may become a beacon, lighting up the individually decorated facilities for future guests!

One of four English cities chosen by the Department of Transport to trial e-scooters and the first city with a voluntary Clean Air Zone, York is a famously sustainable travel city, aiming to become carbon neutral by 2030. Situated only a five-minute stroll from Middletons’ Gardens, show off a sustainable souvenir from York City Centre which gifts you with independent shops homing handcrafted, and unique eco-friendly products.
